Baba Guru Nanak’s teachings promote peace: PU VC ![]() LAHORE: (Wednesday, April 9, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that the teachings of Baba Guru Nanak stress peace and he has played an important role in promotion of peace in the region. He was addressing the launching ceremony of the books ‘Hindutva: The Trust Behind’ and ‘The Tale of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh’s Education System in Punjab’ written by PU Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof Dr Iram Khalid, organized at Al Raazi Hall here on Wednesday. On this occasion, Vice President Sikh Heritage Education and Cultural Organization America Dr Ajit Pal Singh Sandhu, Founder Sikh Heritage, Education and Cultural Organization America Dr Gurinder Singh Grewal, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Defense Analyst Brig. (r) Farooq Hameed, Columnist Salman Abid, Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof Dr Iram Khalid, Chairman Department of Political Science Prof Dr Rana Ijaz Ahmed, Director Institute of Social and Cultural Studies Prof Dr Farhan Naveed Yousaf, Associate Prof Dr Maryam Kamal, faculty members and students were present. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that there is no harm in being proud of one’s religion, but the ideology of Hindutva is different. He said that BJP’s politics reflect the true meanings of Hindutva. He said that politics should be based on ideas, social welfare and humanity. He said that the Sikh community is dearer to us than ourselves. He said that Maharaja Ranjeet Singh's education system was remarkable. He praised Dr Iram Khalid for writing books on excellent topics. He said that these books provide excellent guidance to those interested in the comparative study of different religions. Dr Ajit Singh said that it is always a pleasure to come to Pakistan and he considers himself a Pakistani. He said that we are unaware of history and truth, and Dr Iram Khalid's books will be helpful in exploring the true dynamics of history. He said that Hindus cleverly incited Sikhs against Muslims by calling Sikhs their brothers. He said that Congress was a secular party in which people of other religions including Muslims were also included, but suddenly it turned against minorities. He said that Muslims living in India live in fear and the Indian Army is controlling Occupied Kashmir. He said that everyone has the right to be aware of the truth. Dr Gurinder Singh Grewal said that my parents are Pakistani that is why I also like to call myself a Pakistani. He said that everyone should be aware of the culture, language, lifestyle and history of Punjab. He said that we should all consider differences of opinion as an opportunity instead of an obstacle and work together for a better future. He said that unity and love are established only by understanding each other. He said that PU is the best place for cultural exchanges and learning languages. He said that students can play their role in solving problems, tackling challenges and uniting the world. He advised the students to continue reading and writing even after completing their degrees. Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the existence of a large number of Hindus and a small number of minorities is not a problem but a narrow mind. He said that people in India are buying the ideology of Hindutva. He said that the ideology of RSS and Shiv Sena is that either people should become Hindus or leave India. He said that this ideology is getting more strength now than in the past. He said that historically, Hindus lived with Muslim rulers for a long time, but what is happening now will not be good until the destruction of India. He said that Hindus will not be able to do politics with extremism. He said that education experts should make the world realize to stop the movement of extremism. He said that Maharaja Ranjeet Singh established 18 schools for girls in Lahore alone during his forty-year rule, which is a positive aspect. Brig. (r) Farooq Hameed said that Prof Dr Iram should get a national award for her excellent work. He said that PU has always played a role for the unity of Pakistan. He said that Hindutva is a violent ideology which is harmful to minorities. Dr Iram Khalid thanked the participants and said that these books will play a vital role in promoting reading habits.
